More than 30 days out from the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season, the National Hurricane Center is tracking the first feature of the year. However, like many off-season developments, it will likely just be a meteorological wonder.

The report describes the system as a “small but persistent area of showers and thunderstorms” that caught the NHC’s attention Wednesday morning. This comes just after meteorologists predicted an “extremely active” hurricane season, which officially begins on June 1.

The National Hurricane Center issued its first advisory of the year on Wednesday, a month before the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season.

Already? Weeks before 2024 season starts, National Hurricane Center in Miami reported a "disturbance" in Atlantic. But chances of formation were low.

The National Hurricane Center identified an area of low pressure located about 900 miles northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.
