In Oakland, a property that had long been abandoned -- and one formerly owned by the terrorist's brother -- has met the wrecking ball.

On May 1, 2011, President Barack Obama announced the death of Osama bin Laden during a U.S. commando operation. (Because of the time difference, it was early May 2 in Pakistan, where the al-Qaida leader met his end.) In 1707, the Kingdom of Great Britain was created as a treaty merging England and Scotland took effect.

Once owned by Khalil bin Laden, brother to Al-Qaeda’s co-founder and terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden, the Oakland mansion situated just off West Colonial Drive is now undergoing demolition. Reported by NBC affiliate WESH, the history-laden estate was snapped up by Khalil in the 1980s.

Khalil bin Laden bought the home in the 1980s but he and his family never returned to the site or the United States after the 9/11 terror attacks.

A home once owned by a relative of Osama Bin Laden is being torn down. The mansion just off West Colonial Drive in Oakland was built in the 1920s and bought by one of Bin Laden's more than 50 siblings in the 1980s. They left the home not long after 9/11.

Khalil Bin Laden's former Oakland home is nearly 100 years old, and over the years has been owned by the family that created Tupperware and a creator of Jello.
