Yesterday’s surprise resignation of Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares evidently hasn’t slowed the company’s electric-vehicle aspirations, as word comes today that the U.S. Energy Department has committed over US$7 billion to a joint venture between the company and Samsung SDI.

The project being built by StarPlus Energy LLC is expected to create at least 2,800 jobs at the plants and hundreds more at a supplier park nearby.

The U.S. Energy Department said Monday it plans to lend up to $7.54 billion to a joint venture of Chrysler parent Stellantis and Samsung SDI to help build two electric vehicle lithium-ion battery plants in Indiana.
