Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent made an odd claim about rising beef prices during an appearance on Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. During the show, Bartiromo played a video clip from Omaha Steaks CEO Nate Rempe, who claimed Americans could see ground beef costing $10 a pound.

President Trump is "hyper-focused" on bringing beef prices down and bringing relief to America's cattle ranchers, according to Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins.

Higher beef prices have come alongside rising costs for other grocery store staples, including a 19% increase in coffee prices and a 7% rise in banana prices. Meanwhile, the price of eggs has fallen by 1.5% year-over-year after the cost of that grocery item became a campaign issue.

President Trump announced the removal of U.S. tariffs on beef, coffee, tropical fruits and other commodities amid pressure to address high consumer prices.

As of September, coffee prices have spiked 18.9%, bananas have jumped 6.9% and beef prices have soared 14.7% in the past year, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data showed.

President Trump pledged that prices will come down in a speech to owners, operators and suppliers of his beloved McDonald’s Monday. Trump’s address at the fast-food giant’s Impact Summit in Washington, DC, comes as concerns over his handling of the economy and the cost of living have mounted. “Prices are coming down,” the president claimed.

As prices soar on items like beef, coffee and bananas, thanks to tariffs, the Trump administration has reversed course and exempted more than 200 food items.

By community, the most expensive average gas prices were in Ann Arbor, $3.11 a gallon; metro Detroit, $3.05; and Lansing, $3.03, according to AAA; the least expensive, in Traverse City, $2.81; Marquette, $2.90; and Flint, $2.95.
