Firefighting teams battling the southern California Line Fire achieved 5% containment of the blaze Monday night, with 23,714 acres burned.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency and secured "a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help ensure the availability of vital resources to suppress the fire," stated a press release, as the fire grew over 17,400 acres on Saturday.

The Line Fire in California's San Bernardino County is only 5% contained late Monday after expanding to 20,552 acres and forcing thousands of people to evacuate since it ignited four days ago.
