Kern County fire crews reportedly battled a 2-alarm fire in Lamont, California, for hours late Saturday night, July 12.

A haze visible in parts of the Sacramento Valley is from multiple wildfires burning in Northern California. A north wind is pushing the smoke to the valley, and a high-pressure system is locking it in with little wind.

Madre Fire initially started 1:07 p.m. July 2 in San Luis Obispo County, California. Since its discovery 11 days ago, it has burned 80,786 acres. A crew of 856 firefighters effectively contained 79% of the fire by Sunday morning. The cause of it remains under investigation.
