The U.S. issued a federal order Friday mandating bird flu testing for the national milk supply, as the virus continues its rapid spread among dairy herds.

The move follows an April 24 federal order that mandated testing of certain dairy cattle before they could move between states and required reporting of any positive tests.
The first round of testing under the USDA order is set to begin Dec. 16. in California, Michigan, Colorado, Mississippi, Oregon and Pennsylvania.
