The European Union (EU) will allocate €160 million ($178.74 million) to Ukraine to support its energy security ahead of the winter. Part of the funds will come from frozen Russian assets, according to European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen during a press conference in Brussels.

European Union countries have approved an unprecedented plan to issue a 35-billion-euro ($37.2 billion) loan to support Ukraine's war-torn economy, using Russia's immobilized Central Bank assets as collateral.

G7 and the European Union announced in June that they will provide Ukraine with a loan of $50 billion, serviced by profits generated from frozen Russian assets. More than two-thirds of these assets, around €210 billion (almost $230 billion),

EU ambassadors in Brussels cleared the way for €35 billion ($39 billion) in loans for Ukraine secured by windfall profits from frozen Russian assets on Wednesday. The Council of the European Union - the EU body representing the 27 member states - publicized the decision.
