“Google is sunsetting Gmail,” read the fake news release, which was supposedly addressed to the 1.8 billion users of the service worldwide and posted to X.

The news of Google shutting down Gmail is going viral all over the internet. The tech giant was already in the headlines over Gemini’s inability to create images of white people.

The post claimed that Gmail was going to be shut down. It included a screenshot of an email from Google titled 'Google is sunsetting Gmail', which quickly spread across the internet.

Google swiftly responded to the hoax, posting on its official Gmail X account that, “Gmail is here to stay”. So relax, Gmail is not going anywhere anytime soon.
