Houston area Hurricane Beryl death toll spikes to 36, at least one other death pending. The youngest death due to the hurricane included a 5-year-old, whereas the oldest was a 110-year-old woman.
As in Friday’s flooding, in 1987, five to 10 inches of rain fell in the upper headwaters of the Guadalupe River basin. In Hunt, Texas, where the Guadalupe River forks, over seven inches had fallen since Thursday afternoon, which was the highest total at the site since the early 1990s.
Flash-flood warnings and watches remain in effect for parts of Central Texas into Sunday evening, dimming hopes that more survivors would be found.
