Early Saturday morning, the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning that goes into effect Sunday morning at 4 a.m. and runs through 6 a.m. Monday for the Evansville area. The warning cited "heavy mixed precipitation" expected in the area.

The Tennessee Valley could see some of the heaviest snowfall, with 6 inches expected on Friday. A wide swath of the country is under winter weather warnings and advisories and will see impacts including "widespread closures, treacherous travel, scattered power outages, and downed branches," the weather service said.

Fresh weather warnings have been issued as wintry conditions are causing travel disruption and school closures. Yellow warnings for snow and ice come into force across large parts of the UK on Monday afternoon, and will remain in place into Tuesday.
