An Israeli airstrike on a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon on Tuesday killed 13 people and wounded several others, state media and government officials said. It was the deadliest strike on Lebanon since a ceasefire in the Israel-Hezbollah war a year ago.

Despite more than 100 Palestinians being killed by Israel in little more than 12 hours, the ceasefire continues to hold, though that technicality does not mean much to those on the ground.

The Israeli military says it targeted military infrastructure for Hezbollah in those areas. It accuses the group of rebuilding its capabilities almost a year after a U.S.-brokered ceasefire.

The bombardment came hours after Hezbollah urged the Lebanese government not to enter negotiations with Israel.

These range from the Popular Forces, a militia run by Yasser Abu Shabab that controls a patch of land near the Rafah border crossing with Egypt, to Astal’s smaller Counter-Terrorism Strike Force, which operates near Khan Younis, once a Hamas stronghold.

The worsening situation comes with the Israel-Hamas ceasefire in Gaza shaky and international powers trying to ensure it holds.
