Israel has faced calls to allow aid into northern Gaza through the crossing, which has been closed for two months.

Israeli civilians "attacked IDF soldiers who were operating in the area and caused damage to a military vehicle," Israel's military said in a statement.

Israel says militants have handed over one of the last four remaining hostages taken during the 2023 attack that launched the war in Gaza.
