A 10-day ceasefire has begun in Lebanon. The news is being celebrated across the country, but major questions remain over what happens next. President Trump announced the deal between Israel and Lebanon on Thursday.
Lebanon’s government has been caught between Western demands to disarm the Shiite Muslim militant group and fears of inflaming sectarian tensions.
The truce appeared to mostly hold even as Israel said it had carried out strikes on what it called “terrorists” approaching its forces in southern Lebanon. Separately, a U.N. peacekeeper was killed.
