At least 10 people have died from various health complications since a massive volcanic eruption on Indonesia’s Catholic-majority Flores Island last month, while hundreds of other evacuees have decided to return home, according to a state official.

The Philippines' Kanlaon volcano erupted for nearly four minutes, shooting ash 2.5 miles into the sky and prompting the emergency evacuation of some 87,000 people.

The Kanlaon volcano in the Philippines erupted today (Dec. 9) at 3:03 p.m. local time, spouting an eruption column of up to 1.86 miles (3 kilometers) into the sky and triggering the evacuation of 87,000 people.

The Philippines reported an “explosive eruption” at Kanlaon Volcano in its central Negros island, prompting authorities to advise evacuation around the volcano’s six-kilometer radius.
