Thursday marks nine years since the Pulse nightclub mass shooting that killed 49 people in Orlando. On June 12, 2016, a gunman entered the nightclub and opened fire, which caused the deaths of 49 people and left 53 others injured.

The nightclub is being replaced with a permanent memorial to one of the US’s worst mass shootings in modern history.

Flags are flying at half-staff June 12 across Florida as a "mark of respect" for those who died or were affected by the Pulse Nightclub shooting.
