Plane travel is statistically one of the safest modes of travel. But when things goes wrong, the results are often disastrous.

At least 241 people were killed when a UK-bound Air India flight crashed in western India on Thursday. The air disaster has revived memories of recent air crashes around the globe, which have resulted in hundreds of deaths as well as losses in billions of US dollars.

Aviation experts Flightradar24 said the plane was just a few hundred feet above the airport when it started to rapidly go down. More information is yet to be released regarding casualties and injuries,
