National Guard troops arrived in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday after being ordered into the city by President Trump in response to a weekend of violent clashes between law enforcement officers and protesters triggered by immigration enforcement operations in the area on Friday.
All traffic has been halted on a portion of the 101 freeway in Los Angeles as protesters walk on the freeway, according to Los Angeles Police Department. Both northbound and southbound lanes have been impacted, officials said. "101 freeway between Alameda and the 110 freeway is closed due to demonstrators walking onto the freeway," police said.
An overnight curfew for downtown L.A. was extended to Wednesday night, with officials citing heightened tensions between protesters and authorities that have resulted in violence and property damage.
