A July CNN report on Ukraine's naval drone program said the weapons weigh up to 2,200 pounds and can carry explosive payloads of up to 661 pounds. The unmanned vessels have a maximum range of around 500 miles and top speed of 50 mph.

Russia on Saturday launched its largest drone attack against Ukraine’s capital of Kyiv since the start of its invasion, according to local officials.

Much of Ukraine was under air alert early in the morning of Dec. 8 after Russia launched drone and missile attacks on several areas of the country, including the Dnipro, Kharkiv, and Kyiv oblasts.

Ukrainian military officials say Russia has launched its most intense drone attack on Ukraine since the beginning of its full-scale invasion last year.

The Russian capital has come under attack from drones regularly since May, with Russian officials blaming Ukraine. Military analysts commented at the time that the early attacks deployed Ukrainian locally made drones which could not carry as heavy a payload as the Iranian-made Shaheds used by Russia.

Ukraine said Russia launched a fresh barrage of missiles, killing at least one person, though defenses prevented any from reaching the capital city.

One civilian was killed in a Russian drone attack on Odesa Oblast during the night leading into Dec. 7, the Ukrainian Air Force reported on Telegram.

Russian warplanes fired 19 long-range missiles at targets in Ukraine this morning, killing one civilian in a central region, wounding four more and damaging an industrial facility, Kyiv officials said.
