Sen. Tommy Tuberville lifted his monthslong chokehold on the Senate’s military confirmation process, allowing hundreds of promotions to move forward.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) announced Tuesday that he would drop his 10-month hold on military promotions for those being promoted to three stars and below. Tuberville, who has held up en bloc voting on military promotions over the Pentagon policy for abortion,

Tuberville said he will continue to block the promotion of all senior military positions that are four stars or higher.

Tuberville announced he was dropping his procedural hold on military confirmations on all but those nominated to be four-star generals and admirals.

A further 11 nominees, all four-star officers, will still be subject to individual votes, Tuberville said. “It’s been a long fight. We fought hard,” he told reporters. “We did the right thing for the unborn and for our military.

The Alabama Republican appeared to be eyeing a handful of off-ramps in recent days. But he ultimately gained no concessions for the monthslong holds.
