Hurricane Erick rapidly intensified over the last 24 hours, growing into a powerful Category 4 storm but weakening slightly before making landfall.

Hurricane Erick made landfall in Mexico as a major Category 3 storm on Thursday morning, according to the National Hurricane Center.The storm landed in western Oaxaca, Mexico, just east of Punta Maldonado with maximum sustained winds near 125 mph.

Hurricane Erick has made landfall in southern Mexico at Category 3 intensity with life-threatening storm surge, rainfall flooding and high winds.
