Harris and Trump remain at near parity in strength of support, with about six-in-ten of each candidate’s supporters backing them strongly.

In the Toss-up category, North Carolina joins Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan and the 2nd Congressional District of Nebraska (which under state law determines its own electoral vote).

Harris enters the debate will clear momentum. Trump has struggled to settle on a clear attack against her and has lost ground since Biden's exit. Still, national polling averages show Harris has only a slight lead. In some cases, the race is even closer in the small number of swing states that will decide the election.
