U.S. President Donald Trump hopes to sign the bill Wednesday night to end the government shutdown, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told a press conference.
In order for the federal government to reopen, the House would need to approve the bill, and President Trump would need to sign it into law.
The Trump administration has used mass firings of federal layoffs as a key tool in its efforts to reshape the federal workforce. From the time he took office in January until the end of February, more than 200,000 federal workers at dozens of government agencies were fired.
