Inflation cooled for the third straight month in April even after some of President Donald Trump’s tariffs took effect, though economists and many business owners expect inflation will climb by this summer.

Consumer prices in April were up 2.3% from a year ago, the smallest annual increase in more than four years. Grocery prices fell 0.4%, thanks to a large drop in the price of eggs.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the headline figure for the Consumer Price Index was at 2.3% year-over-year, down from 2.4% in March and lower than the expected 2.4% growth.
