The U.S.-led international coalition stationed in western Iraq shot down two Iranian drones believed to be heading toward Israel, two Iraqi military officials said Sunday. The drones were intercepted near the Ain al-Asad Air Base in Iraq’s Anbar province late Saturday,

An explosion occurred in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region of northern Iraq on Sunday evening, the third day of the Israel-Iran war. Residents said the explosion was caused by a drone and images appeared to show an object on fire falling from the sky.

The Navy is sending the USS Thomas Hudner to bolster air defense systems in the region as fighting between Israel and Iran continues.

The retaliatory strikes came on Saturday, a day after Israel killed top Iranian military leaders and scientists and destroyed an aboveground nuclear enrichment plant near Natanz.
