Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang reportedly called Washington’s export curbs on the sale of AI chips to China a “failure” that would drive Chinese rivals to speed up developing their own semiconductors.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security published guidance warning that companies risked violating U.S. export controls by using Huawei's Ascend AI chips, the Shenzhen-based tech company's most advanced semiconductor series.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang criticized U.S. export controls blocking the sale of its AI chips to China. Last month, the chipmaker noted a $5.5 billion write-down to its inventory, after the U.S. demanded companies get a license to sell their AI chips to China.
