The National Weather Service issues a litany of notices before and during inclement weather events. They can be important signals on how to respond.

DETROIT - The National Weather Service has now issued a Winter Storm Warning for one county and Winter Weather Advisories for other areas ahead of a massive winter storm that is expected to nick the southern tier of Michigan.

All 254 Texas counties woke up under some form of weather alert as a massive winter storm began its trek across the eastern half of the country.

The National Weather Service released a winter storm warning at 12:38 p.m. on Friday valid from Saturday 7 p.m. until Monday 7 a.m. for Atlantic and Cape May counties.

On Saturday at 5:07 a.m. EST a winter weather advisory was issued by the National Weather Service valid from 7 p.m. EST until Monday 1 a.m. EST for Branch and Hillsdale counties.

This index, from NOAA's National Weather Service, attempts to scale the impacts from winter weather, taking into account factors such as snowfall, accumulated snow on rooftops, ice accumulation, the potential for a flash freeze, and blowing snow. Not all factors are in play in a given winter storm.

In the watch area we expect heavy mixed precipitation! Ice accumulations of 0.25-0.75 inch and up to 1-2 inches of snow and sleet.
