SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A wildfire has started on Ensign Peak, just above the Utah State Capitol building in Salt Lake City, according to Utah Fire Info. The new fire, which is being called the “Sandhurst Fire,” is reportedly showing active fire behavior and is visible from I-15.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities in Utah lifted evacuation orders for a wildfire in Salt Lake City that threatened neighborhoods near the state Capitol over the weekend. The evacuation order was lifted late Sunday after authorities said more than 100 firefighters worked to protect homes.

The blaze that started Saturday on Ensign Peak was 10% contained Sunday evening, officials said, and Salt Lake City police later announced that an evacuation order in place for more than a day was lifted.

SALT LAKE CITY — Firefighters are close to completely extinguishing the Sandhurst Fire burning in the hills above the Utah State Capitol. As of Monday afternoon, the fire size remained at an estimated 204 acres, but was now 82 percent containment.

Crews responding to the fire above Ensign Peak have made good progress this week thanks in part to Monday’s lower temperatures and higher humidity, an official said. By Tuesday afternoon, the roughly 200-acre fire had not significantly expanded, according to Utah Fire Info.
