As health officials work furiously to stem the spread of Marburg virus in Rwanda, U.S. health officials announced Monday that all passengers flying from that country to the United States will soon be screened for the often deadly disease.

NBC News Because of an outbreak of Marburg virus, travelers who have visited the African country recently will be screened for symptoms at three airports. U.S. health officials are preparing to screen passengers flying in from Rwanda for symptoms of Marburg virus, a severe infection similar to Ebola.

“The Biden-Harris Administration has announced a plan to begin public health entry screening at three U.S. airports for people coming from the Republic of Rwanda to reduce the risk of importation of Marburg virus disease into the United States,” Rosa Norman, a CDC spokesperson, said in a statement to USA TODAY.
