The sides of your 18x20 steel carport can be left open, partially closed, or fully closed. You can close one or both gables, close the back, or fully enclose it and turn it into a metal garage. Steel carports come with 14-gauge tubing, which is 2 1/2? by 2 1/2? square tubing, but you can upgrade to 12-gauge tubing, which is 2 1/4? by 2 1/4? tubing. Framing with the optional thicker 12-gauge tubing comes with a 20-year rust-through warranty. These metal carports come certified for 140 mph winds and 35 psf snow loads. To achieve this rating, the structure will have a tighter screw pattern and be anchored to support the 140 mph wind rating. Generic blueprint drawings, which may or may not be required to secure your permit, can be emailed to you upon your request within approximately 3 to 4 business days after ordering.
